More than 300’000 people in over 600 communities across eight countries without access to the electricity grid now benefit from renewable energy thanks to the use of our inverters combined with solar panels and wind generator systems.
Bolivia:
59 communities
Perú:
130 communities
Ecuador:
91 communities
Guatemala:
117 communities
Honduras:
68 communities
Nicaragua:
42 communities
Paraguay:
45 communities
El Salvador:
48 communities
The EURO-SOLAR offgrid project is funded by the NGO EuropeAid
Most of the beneficiary communities (70%) opted for solar energy systems. The consistent winds in Bolivia and Peru led the remaining communities (30% of the 600) to choose solar and wind systems.
Each of the 600 systems consists of:
- 12 gel batteries that store energy, providing access to electricity 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
- A partitioned cabinet designed to safely house and protect the batteries.
- 5 m² of solar panels, and a wind turbine for the communities (30%) that opted for the solar + wind system.
- A control panel that monitors and manages electricity storage and distributes power to the facilities.
Our aj series of pure sine wave inverters convert battery voltage into high-quality 230 or 120 Vac power, which can be used for all electrical appliances required by the communities. Each of the 600 systems uses one aj 350-24, one aj 1300-24, and a solar charge controller to charge the batteries.
With more than 25 years on the market, aj inverters are ideally suited to rural electrification. They are widely recognised by NGOs for this purpose and are frequently used in projects of this kind.
This project adopted a participatory approach, whereby communities were responsible for covering the costs of operating and maintaining the equipment included in the EURO-SOLAR kit. For this reason, the system was designed to be user-friendly, and the equipment was carefully selected for its robustness, reliability, and ease of repair.
What are the project results?
At the end of the EURO-SOLAR programme 600 power-generation kits had been installed providing electricity, based exclusively on renewable energy sources, to over 300’000 people in 600 rural communities in Latin America previously without access to electricity.
Thanks to this energy, residents now have access to light, the internet and telecommunications, basic medical care and education.
